What is a Resting Metabolic Rate Test?

– A test that provides how many calories your body burns at rest in order to perform the most basic functions (respiration, circulation, body temperature, muscular activity, and other important functions of your body). Resting metabolic rate changes based on your gender, body size, and diet.

What should I expect during a RMR test?

You will be asked to sit in a relaxed position, and we will be taking your resting heart rate and blood pressure.

For the test, you will be asked to wear:

    1. PNOĒ Breath Analysis Device

    2. Polar Heart Rate Monitor (chest strap). ​​

Your will be lying down on your back for about 10 minutes with your eyes closed (you may not sleep during the test).

How should I prepare for an RMR test?

1. Do not exercise, eat, drink (except water), or smoke at least 5 hours before your test.

2. Do not complete any intense exercise for 24 hours beforehand.

3. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing for your test.

4. Arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment to get checked in.

5. Your appointment will be 1 hour long and include a body composition analysis, blood pressure and the RMR test.

Exercise Test ($150)

• 1 hour appointment that will include warm-up, exercise test (via running, rowing or cycling) and cool down.

• You will receive a custom exercise prescription to help fix limitations.

What is a Maximal Exercise (VO2 Max) Test?

– A test that is currently the gold standard for determining your exercise capacity and is the best indicator of cardiorespiratory & aerobic fitness. Poor cardiorespiratory fitness levels are associated with an increased risk for obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular health.

What is a Submaximal Exercise (Submax) Test?

– A test designed to estimate your cardiorespiratory & aerobic capacity for exercise, without undergoing maximal  exercise testing conditions (maximal heart rate). This test is beneficial for those who are unable to complete the maximal exercise test.

What should I expect during an exercise test?

What to expect during an Exercise Test? 

You will be running, cycling, or rowing depending on your preferred exercise.

You will conduct a parameter check to create your custom protocol.

For the test, you will be asked to wear:

    1. PNOĒ Breath Analysis Device

    2. Polar Heart Rate Monitor (chest strap). ​​

The test involves exercising at increasing intensity until exhaustion.

The test lasts between 9 and 12 minutes (not including warm-up & cool down).

How do I prepare for an exercise test?
  1. Do not eat, drink (except water), or smoke at least 2 hours before your test.
  2. Make sure you are properly hydrated before the test.
  3. Wear comfortable running shoes, and activewear clothing for your test.
  4. Arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment to get checked in.
  5. Your appointment will be 1 hour long and include a Medical Body Composition Analysis, Pulmonary Function Test, blood pressure, warm-up, exercise test, cool-down & recovery.

What is a Medical Body Composition Analysis

Body Mass Index (BMI) can be used to categorize people into risk groups (underweight, normal weight, overweight, obese) that may lead to health problems. However, BMI does not accurately measure body at percentage or assess one’s overall health.

On the other hand, the medical body composition analysis breaks down your weight into: fat mass, fat-free mass, and total body water. Fat free mass includes your internal organs, muscle, bone, connective tissue, and water. The medical body composition analysis provides accurate analysis of what your body is made of.

Please note that individuals with Pacemakers or similar implanted devices are unable to perform medical body composition analysis.

What to expect during a Medical Body Composition (mBCA) Test?

You will be asked to remove your shoes and sock, and any personal belongings from you pocket.

You will be asked to stand barefoot on the scale with your feet aligned with the sensors on the base and your hands appropriately holding onto the handles.

We will then measure your waist circumference for the visceral fat measurement.

How do you prepare for a Medical Body Composition (mBCA) Test?

Do not eat, drink (except water), or smoke at least 2 hours before your test, no alcohol 24 hours prior to the test and not caffeine at least 3 hours prior to the test.

Properly hydrate over a 24-hour period before test.

Avoid exercise 12 hours before the test.

Wear comfortable clothing for your test.

Arrive 10 minutes early to your appointment to get checked in.

Your appointment will last 15 minutes, unless performed with Your Physiology Assessment or Exercise test.
